Sponsored by Boys and Girls Club of Greater Baton Rouge, Youth Legislature is a program that introduces students to the legislative process. Along with classroom instruction and a two-day mock legislative session held at the Old State Capitol in Baton Rouge, 8th graders from St. Theresa work to understand and experience government in action.
Students elect a Governor, House, and Senate officers. Student Legislators debate and vote on bills that have been drafted by fellow Legislators. Press Delegates report on happenings of each legislative session, and some students are elected into the Hall of Fame for outstanding work. The Youth Legislature experience is one that helps spark interest in the legislative process and helps guide the future leaders of the great state of Louisiana.
