The St. Theresa Middle School Robotics Club has the goal of promoting science, technology, engineering, and math while incorporating problem solving abilities and mentoring between students.
Ten students start the year with preparing for the First Lego League regional qualifier round by building, testing, and programming an autonomous robot using Lego Mindstorms to solve a set of missions in the Robot Game. The team also enters three other areas of competition: Robot Design, Project, and Core Values. Robot Design covers Mechanical Design, Programming, and Strategy & Innovation. Project entails Research, Innovative Solution, and Presentation. Core Values includes Inspiration, Teamwork, and Gracious Professionalism.
The Robotics Club also competes in the WWII Robotics Challenge held at the National WWII Museum in New Orleans. It requires projects, based on real-life scenarios during WWII. There is also a Robot Mission that requires programming of robots to complete the tasks on a special mat that is tied into the WWII theme. The St. Theresa Middle Robotics Club was the Grand Champion of the National WWII Museum 2013 Robotics Challenge.
