Duke TIP

duke-tip7th Grade Talent Search

The Duke University Talent Identification Program (TIP) is a national organization which identifies academically gifted students presently in the seventh grade.

Its purpose is to:
  • identify  academically exceptional students at an early age
  • facilitate the education of these students
  • follow and nurture their talent through the critical middle and high school years
  • develop an effective research effort to help understand the nature of academically talented adolescents

Eligible students must score within the upper five percent of national age – grade norms on an acceptable math, verbal, or total composite section of an in-school achievement test. Candidates with eligible scores are then invited to take the SAT or the ACT as 7th graders, which allows them greater insight into their academic abilities. In addition, they gain valuable benefits and resources for gifted students. Qualifying students from St. Theresa are invited each year to participate in this program.
