A counseling program is offered at St. John Primary/St. Theresa Middle. It is designed to be preventive and developmental not therapeutic; therefore, participation does not necessarily indicate a problem. The school counselor is available to see students individually, in small groups, and through classroom presentations. Skills and information are taught in these settings. A team approach, which includes students, parents, teachers, and administration, is emphasized. If indicated through assessment that an evaluation or therapy is needed, a recommendation will be made.

All students can benefit from learning how to accept responsibility, manage stress, communicate effectively, make decisions, solve problems and deal with peer pressure. Students can enhance their self-concepts and learn more about themselves and each other through the counseling process.
